Can I Post on Instagram From my Mac? Can I Check my Messages?

Can I post on Instagram from my Mac? Can I check my messages? These questions aren’t as straightforward as they seem. We have the answers to your FAQs.

Here’s the million-dollar question: can I post on Instagram from my Mac? The short answer is: yes! It takes about two clicks within Safari’s menu bar, but you can have everything you want in a matter of moments.

Although people often think you can’t send messages on a MacBook either, that is no longer the case with the simple workarounds we’re about to share with you.

So, fire up your fingers. We’re about to remove Instagram from the palm of your hand and blow it up, fullscreen.

Setting up Instagram in Safari

What we’re about to show you isn’t a change to the way you operate Instagram. Rather, it’s a workaround that will enable you to use your laptop to mirror your iPhone.

The first thing you’ll need to do is open up Safari. Then, get ready to scroll. Over on the top, left-hand corner of your MacBook, click on “Safari.”

From there, check “Preferences.” In the gray menu that appears, centered on the very bottom, you will see, “Show Develop menu in menu bar.” Click that.

Once that’s done, click on the “Develop” option from your menu bar. There, you will see “User Agent” as your second option.

Hover over it, and choose “Safari — iOS 13.1.3 — iPhone.” Your Safari version may vary, of course, but you’ll know what to do.

A Whole New World

Once this happens, you’ll be looking at your iPhone, but on your laptop. Once you log into Instagram, you’ll see all your favorite friends.

You’ll notice the little “home” icon on the bottom left-hand corner. You’ll be able to access your profile page with the bottom left button.

For the purposes of this article, you’ll also see two very important buttons. Centered in the middle of your screen, you’ll see the + button, enabling you to create a new post.

Also, on the top right of the screen, you’ll see the little paper airplane, enabling you to send and receive messages.

How to Post on Instagram from Mac

Once you’re in, you’re in! To post on Instagram, click on your little + symbol. You’ll be prompted to select a file from your laptop. Once you’ve selected the photo, it’s business as usual.

The photo will appear quite large, so you may need to scroll down to access the filter and editing option. Once that’s tidied up, it’s time to add your caption, your location – if you so desire – and tag anyone that needs tagging.

Once you’ve waxed philosophically in your caption and added your location, the “Share” button will be in its normal place, in the upper right-hand corner.

How to Check Messages on Instagram from Mac

Here comes everyone’s next question: how to check Instagram messages on Mac? The answer is short and sweet.

As long as you’re looking at the News Feed on your home screen, you’ll see the little paper airplane in the upper right-hand corner. The rest is business as usual.

Click on the paper airplane and select the existing conversation you’d like to continue. Or, you can click on the little pen and pad in the upper right-hand corner and start a new conversation.

One thing we learned as we practiced all this for you is that hitting “Return,” does not send your message. (It only tabs down one line.) You must make sure you click on “Send” to the right of your message.

Third-Party Apps

Here comes the tricky part. What if you don’t have an iPhone? Then, how do you mirror your Android in an easy way? Well, you can consider a few different third-party apps. We just ask you to exercise caution in this endeavor.

In a dark web full of online scammers, you don’t want to download any ol’ app and go. Ask your friends who are avid MacBook users what they use. Read the reviews before downloading any app. Give it a quick Google for some cursory research.

Here are some Mac-friendly apps that are worth a little bit of your reading time:

  • BlueStacks
  • LDPlayer
  • Bliss OS
  • Android Studio’s Emulator
  • ARChon

Take a read through each developer’s information and see which app feels best for you. Apps like BlueStacks have been around for a while and are quite popular with gamers who want to take the fun from their cell phones to their MacBooks. Certainly, many of these third-party apps can handle a little Instagram festivity.

Messaging Apps

If it’s mainly your messages you’re interested in accessing and, for some reason, one of these alternatives doesn’t suit your needs, then you might enjoy installing a messaging app on your MacBook.

These are great because they compile all our favorites – Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, LinkedIn, Gmail, and more.

Here are some all-in-one messaging apps that are worth a little investigation:

  • IM+
  • YakYak
  • Adium
  • Trillian
  • OneChat

With apps like these, you can type away on your MacBook and never have to pick up your phone for the sound of a new message. Whichever app you choose, just make sure Instagram is part of their list of compatible apps.
